This vibrant, luminous color is the result of genuine in-house expertise at Rolex, combining craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. Initially, the shades created for the Oyster Perpetual line start as colored lacquer, which must be carefully and evenly applied to achieve a uniform surface. This step takes place in a controlled environment to prevent the entry of dust and other contaminants.
Six layers of lacquer are successively applied to the brass disk, the foundation of the dial. Then, a transparent lacquer is applied and polished to give the color its shine and vibrancy. Subsequently, various inscriptions are printed using pad printing, while indices and the crown are riveted by hand. The flawless and glossy dial can now be placed onto the watch movement during the assembly of the timepiece.
